Thematic Assembly was conducted on February 25th. During this assembly, students presented a skit with a theme of UAE. It helped them learn the UAE national symbols and greetings. It promoted personal and social development as they learn about the culture of UAE. It also provided opportunity to appreciate other students performing in front of them.
KG 1 & KG 2
Innovation Station activities were organised from February 2nd till 27th. In Recycling Corner, KG 1 students were engaged in ‘heart frame & basket making’ while KG 2 students were involved in ‘woolen heart & fairy doll making’. It helped them know about recycling by doing their craft activity. It also helped to develop their fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, independence and creativity. In Gizmo Corner, KG 1 students participated in activities titled ‘our environment & seasons’ while KG 2 students were engaged in activities titled ‘seasons, sun, moon, star, day & night’. They were able to solve puzzles for CVC words and the three letter words. They were able to count and write the correct numbers for the pictures. They were able to draw and talk about their favorite seasons and birds. They were able to solve the puzzles for Arabic letter and the pictures. They were able to solve the puzzles for logic games and the puzzles for numbers counting before & after number. They were able to solve puzzles of different seasons by writing spellings for each season. They were able to solve puzzles for additions and subtractions. They were able to solve puzzles for sentences and words. They were able to know about the seasons (fruits, weather and the changes in the environment). They spoke about their favorite seasons and drew what things they like to eat during that season. It helped them learn about different seasons and blending of CVC & three letter words. It also helped them develop their reading skills, writing skills, critical thinking, problem solving, vocabulary building, eye hand coordination & independence by drawing and painting with their imagination & creativity.
Art & Craft activities were held from February 2nd to 27th. KG 1 students were engaged in different art activities such as flower craft, card making and flag making while KG 2 students were involved in flower making, 3D Heart and Day & Night craft activities. They were able to complete and finish their art activities by tracing, folding and cutting the different shape given to them. It helped them know that flowers starts to bloom during spring season and that Valentine’s Day were celebrated worldwide every 14th month of February. It also helped them learn about day time and night time. Their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination were developed as well as their creativity and independence in creating their art activity. They also learnt taking turns and enjoyed doing the activities.
Kiddies Junction activities were held from February 2nd to 27th. These activities helped them develop their fine motor, eye hand coordination, self-confidence and self-esteem. It also enhanced their language & social skills and their creative and imaginative skills. KG 1 students participated in Practical Life Skills – straw, pasta & clay, setting the table using placemat and flipping the spatula, in My Small World - dessert sand & fairy tale land small world, and in Performing - dramatizing “birthday party celebration” & “magical fairy tale”. It helped them develop their gripping skills and their sense of responsibility & independence. It enhanced their natural love of playing in the sand box and in magical fairy world. They were able to concentrate. They were able to show their creativity and imagination in creating their own small world of fairy. They were able to dramatize different scenarios in a birthday party celebration and fairy tale world. KG 2 students were engaged in My Small World - camping small world & construction site activity, in Performing - dramatizing “day & night activity” and “in the Gym” role play activity, in Lego Corner - build models of the given picture and some created their own model. It enhanced their natural love of playing in the camping and construction site. They were able to share their experience as they explore the camping and construction site world. They were able to act out different activities they do during the day and at night. They were able to perform dance exercise with confidence. They were able to express the importance of keeping our body fit and healthy. It also helped them develop their cognitive and problem solving skills.
Little Explorers were conducted from February 2nd till 27th. During these activities, KG 1 students were involved in Light Science, Make a Cloud Rain and Teddy’s Umbrella experiments while KG 2 students were engaged in Air Takes Space Experiment, Tornado in a Bottle, and Day & Night Exploration. It was an opportunity for them to experiment, explore, predict, observe, compare and talk about their activities. They were able to understand, learn and come to conclusions.
Reading Lounge activities were organised from February 2nd to 27th. Through these activities, KG 1 students understood that words are read from left to right and pages are read from top to bottom. They made connections among sounds, letters, words, pictures and meaning. They read simple story books independently. They identified characters, settings & events, predict outcomes, recall, retell and re-enact stories. They told own make- up and real stories. They also relate stories to real life situations. Teacher encouraged them to come forward to roll the dice and according to the number they were asked to read the words. They were also asked to act out the word given by the teacher and other students were asked to guess the words. They brushed up the sight words through reading sentences. While narrating the story teacher asked questions in between. This increased their willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings. Towards the end of the story narration, pictures were shown in which they were asked to sequence them and make a mind map. Just for mum, town mouse and the country mouse, kippers birthday, the princess and the pea were the stories narrated. KG 2 students reads more challenging text decoding using phonic knowledge. They talked and listened with confidence, consistently showing awareness both the listener by including relevant details. Teacher encouraged them to come forward to roll the dice and read out the sentence according to the number they got. They also had a chance to build a long word from the given word “make”. Most of them could identify the CVC words and sight words they were familiar with. Teacher initiated the story discussing the cover and elicited the answers from them. They were also encouraged to understand and speak about what they read. They explore the meanings and events in the story. Pictures were shown on Interactive Board and were asked to make their own stories. They were encouraged for a pair reading followed by a group discussion of characters and incidents in the story with a mind map. This encouraged active participation and increased their vocabulary. Water fight, at the sea side, present for mum, and kipper the clown were the stories narrated.
D.E.A.R. activities were conducted from February 6th till 27th (every Thursday). Students brought a book to read. There was a period in the day where they stopped doing their activities to give way for reading. After that, they were engaged in a variety of hands-on activities. It gave them more opportunities to read books they wanted and enjoyed the pleasure of reading. It also aimed to encourage families at home to designate a special time to drop everything and read at home.
Thematic Assembly was conducted on February 20th. During this assembly, students presented a country of India. They prepared a PPT and spoke about the country. They also shared few words and greetings. They got familiarized with the Indian culture, greetings, national symbols and currency. It also helped students who presented to enhance their language and communication skills.
Little Explorers - Field Trip was organised on February 27th. Students got a chance to learn and develop through hands-on play, allowing them to unlock their imagination and really explore the world around them. It also helped to develop their sense of individuality & social understanding, learn about spatial & time-related awareness, excite their thirst for knowledge, build their understanding of science & technology and burnt off some energy through exercise.
Grade 3 & 4
Special Assembly scheduled on February 12th was postponed to February 26th due to delay on procurement of medals. During this assembly, medals and certificates to position holders for sports day were awarded. It aimed to appreciate students’ participation in sports activities and to congratulate the winners.
A Student Talk on the topic ‘Being Responsible’ was conducted on February 10th for KG 2. Through this talk, students understood that consequences are attached to every choice of behavior and they learnt to choose action & reaction responsibly.
Annual Day with the theme titled ‘a musical journey through the diverse lands of the world’ was held on February 3rd for KG 2. This day was an occasion of celebration, felicitation, feast and festivity when students present their wonderful performances. They presented small skits along with dance and mesmerized the audience with their performances by taking them through a musical journey. The entire section participated wholeheartedly towards the success of this grand event.
Annual Day with the theme titled ‘Magic is Everywhere’ was held on February 6th for KG 1. This annual cultural day was an opportunity for students to display their talents in front of a big audience. They presented small skits along with dance and mesmerized the audience with their performances by taking them to a magical world where everything was possible. The entire section participated wholeheartedly towards the success of this grand event.
Annual Day was held on February 17th & 18th for grade 1 & 2. During this day, students celebrated and appreciated the martyrs’ bravery, sacrifices and loyalty of the Indian soldiers. They were fully engaged to portrait soldier’s life. They showed their talents in singing, dancing, execute the different drills and acting.
Civil Defence Fire Drill was conducted on February 24th. Civil Defence personnel with the help of firefighters demonstrated for students the evacuation procedures adopted during an emergency. It created awareness among students and staff of the measures adopted by school for their safety.
Sports Day was held on February 5th for grade 3 & 4. Students performed well in march past, drill, inter house flat race, relay race, hopping race with balancing beam and hopping race with ball & obstacles. It empowered students with life skills. It also boosted their confidence.
